The newest veterinarian, here is Dr. Abdulhameed Kateregga, also called Dr. Hameed who joined the Ugandan staff early in the month of January and serves as the Forecast field veterinarian within Bwindi Impenetrable as well as Mgahinga National Parks also to help Dr. Fred in monitoring as well as care of mountain gorillas living in Uganda .
Dr. Fred currently is training Dr. Hameed regarding MGVP’s health-monitoring program for gorilla and the 2 are already busy visiting the habituated mountain-gorilla families in Uganda. In his function for Forecast, Dr. Hameed will help Dr. Benard in studying rising infectious diseases within the wildlife communities of national parks in Uganda.
Being a student at School of Veterinary Medicine – Makerere University’s, where MGVP facilitates a considerable capability building program, actually Dr. Hameed was chosen among MGVP’s undergraduate students in the year 2009. He actually was mentored by Dr. JBN- their research veterinarian who oversaw through Dr. Hameed dissertation investigating “the prevalence of gastrointestinal disease within the mountain gorillas going through habituation inside Bwindi Impenetrable National Park”.
Following completing his scientific studies at Makerere University in 2010, this Dr. Hameed signed up for a long-distance studying program in the University of Edinburgh so as to get a Master of Science in international animal-health. He’s about to finish his studies in the year 2014. Prior to being a Gorilla Doctor, Doctor Hameed served as a veterinary officer in the non-profit Conservation based in Uganda through the Public Health.
Doctor Hameed said that following being selected as an MGVP undergraduate student and operating under doctor JBN, all he actually wished to do was deal with mountain gorillas as a veterinarian with MGVP.
